Public Lectures

Biodiversity Bites lectureFrom time to time the Centre run series of public lectures on biodiversity topics. The lectures are given by staff or invited speakers and aim to present to the general public some of our research activities and their applications. Examples include 'What's Its Name? - why plants change their name', 'Botanical Treasures - unlocking the many values of Australian plants', 'Plant Invaders - it's not only the exotics that are escaping', and 'Bushland on Life Support - remnant vegetation and the quality of life'. These are usually held in the CSIRO Discovery Centre and draw crowds of 120-150 people. Drinks and nibbles follow each session. The Powerpoint presentations are often made available on the web a few days after each presentation.

Staff from time to time address a wide range of community groups and special interest associations on the Centre's activities.

2011 Report

A public lecture 'Naming Australia's Biodiversity - it matters' was held on 22 August 2007 to commemorate Linnaeus' 300th birthday. Guest speakers from around the country spoke on the past, present and future with respect to plant and animal names.
