Thallus epiphyllous, subcuticular, rounded to irregular, 2–10 mm wide, smaller thalli often convex, often with short rounded to irregular marginal lobes, these occasionally deeply incised, comparatively thick (c. 30–70 µm), pale grey to pale greenish grey, frequently with a bluish tint, ±smooth to rugose, glossy; photobiont Cephaleuros; prothallus not apparent. Perithecia semi-immersed, convex to subhemispherical, 0.25–0.40 (–0.50) mm diam., glossy black, usually sharply delimited from the thallus. Perithecial apex rounded; ostiole inconspicuous or in a shallow depression. Involucrellum brownish black to jet-black and carbonaceous, extending to exciple base level, 20–40 µm thick. Exciple hyaline, 8–13 µm thick. Centrum 0.15–0.30 mm diam. Paraphyses simple to very sparingly branched. Asci narrowly obclavate, 50–80 × 10–15 µm. Ascospores irregularly biseriate in the ascus, 1-septate, broadly fusiform, constricted at the septum, the distal cell slightly to markedly larger than the proximal, 15–25 × 4–7 µm; cells not separating. Conidiomata not seen in the Australian specimen; reported to be wart-shaped, semi-immersed, black and 0.07–0.15 mm diam., containing 1-septate bacilliform macroconidia 14–18 × 3–4 µm; also 0.05–0.10 mm diam., with simple fusiform microconidia 4–5 × 1.5–2.0 µm (Lücking, 2008: 232) | ||
