  Thallus epiphloeodal or epilithic (not in Australia), sparingly to richly rimose, pale grey, pale grey-green or pale grey-brown, minutely to coarsely rugulose and/or verruculose, 40–120 µm thick, corticate; prothallus dark grey-brown to black or not apparent. Algae Trentepohlia; cells 6–15 × 6–11 µm. Perithecial verrucae convex to subglobose, 0.44–92 mm diam.; wall containing a layer of colourless crystals; ostiole inconspicuous or in a shallow depression; periostiolar area grey-brown to dark brown, 0.08–0.22 mm diam. Involucrellum dimidiate or enclosing the exciple, orange-brown to brown. Exciple c. 20 µm thick, pale brown to yellowish brown. Centrum 0.3–0.54 mm wide. Periphyses 10–20 (–30) µm long. Asci elongate-fusiform, 180–250 × 30–50 µm. Ascospores narrowly ellipsoidal to fusiform, submuriform to muriform, with 9–12 transverse septa, each loculus with (0–) 1 (–2) longitudinal or diagonal septa, 49–95 × 13–24 µm; perispore 2–3 µm thick, evanescent. Pycnidia not seen.
     
  Occurs in northern N.T. on bark in rainforest. Rather common in the Neotropics; also in Madagascar, the Philippines and China (Hong Kong).
