Thallus foliose, loosely to moderately adnate, fragile, to 1–3 cm wide. Lobes imbricate or not, irregular, subirregularly branched, 0.5–1 (–1.5) mm wide. Upper surface pale grey to dark blue-grey, flat, dull, shiny towards lobe apices where margins are commonly blackened, conspicuously white-maculate, smooth, without soredia; isidia scattered, globose becoming cylindrical, sparingly branched, inflated especially at apices; isidia apices epicorticate, intact. Lower surface pale tan; rhizines sparse, simple, slender, concolorous. Apothecia and pycnidia not seen. CHEMISTRY: cortex K+ yellow; medulla K-, C-, P-; containing atranorin, colensoic acid (major), norcolensoic acid (trace) and with or without unidentified compound (trace). | ||
