Thallus foliose, tightly adnate, to 5–10 cm wide. Lobes contiguous, radiating, flat, sublinear-elongate, 0.2–0.5 mm wide, without terete, subfruticose laciniae. Upper surface smooth, slightly shiny and olive-brown at margins, becoming dull, rugulose, cracked and dark brown towards thallus centre, without isidia. Lower surface dark brown to black with a paler brown zone at lobe apices; rhizines sparse, simple, tufted or not, to 0.3 mm long, black. Apothecia common, sessile, to 0.8 mm wide (probably immature); disc concave, irregular, dark brown; thalline exciple thick, crenulate. Asci and ascospores not seen. Pycnidia common. Conidia bifusiform, 5.5–7 × 1 µm. CHEMISTRY: cortex K-, HNO3+ faint blue or HNO3- in part; medulla K-, C-, KC+ pale yellow, P-, UV-; containing barbatic acid (major) and 4-O-demethylbarbatic acid. | ||
A very rare species known only from W.A., the type locality in S.A. and from New Zealand. Grows on rock. | ||
