| Thallus foliose, moderately adnate to adnate, to c. 7 cm wide. Lobes imbricate or not, flat, irregular to sublinear-elongate, irregularly branched, 1–2.5 (–4) mm wide; laciniae sometimes developing, imbricate, 0.5–1 mm wide. Upper surface yellow-green to olive-green, darkening in older lobes, dull, shiny near apices, emaculate, lacking soredia and isidia; older lobes becoming irregularly cracked; lobe margins often black. Medulla white. Lower surface pale brown, often darker towards lobe apices; rhizines sparse, simple, slender, 0.2 mm long, concolorous. Apothecia sessile, 1.5–7 mm wide; disc concave, becoming flattened or irregular and crenulate with age, dark brown; thalline exciple smooth, entire, thin. Ascospores 8–10 × 5–6 µm. Pycnidia common. Conidia bifusiform, 5–6 × 0.5 µm CHEMISTRY: cortex K-, UV-; medulla K-, C-, KC-, P-; containing usnic acid, constipatic acid, ±protoconstipatic acid, ±dehydroconstipatic acid, ±pertusaric acid and with or without unidentified fatty acids. | ||
| Scattered, on rock in coastal, drier mountain, subalpine and subarid areas of southern and eastern Australia (S.A., Qld, N.S.W., A.C.T. and Vic.); also on the South Is. of New Zealand (MacKenzie Country). | ||
