Thallus foliose to subcrustose, very tightly adnate, to c. 3–5 cm wide. Lobes barely imbricate or not, flat, irregular, irregularly branched, 0.2–1 (–1.5) mm wide. Upper surface pale yellow-green, shiny at least near lobe apices, emaculate, smooth at margins, becoming transversely or irregularly cracked, without soredia; older lobes becoming rugulose and eventually areolate; isidia in thallus centre, globose then cylindrical, simple or expanding laterally and becoming branched and shortly coralloid; isidia apices syncorticate and solid. Medulla white. Lower surface shiny, pale tan to light brown, darker at lobe apices; rhizines sparse to moderately dense, short, simple, concolorous. Apothecia sessile, 0.5–1 mm wide; disc concave then ±flat, dark brown; thalline exciple smooth, ultimately isidiate, thick, entire, involute, becoming thinner. Ascospores 6–10.5 × 3.5–5.5 µm. Pycnidia not seen. CHEMISTRY: cortex K-, UV-; medulla K-, C-, KC-, P-; containing usnic acid, constipatic acid, protoconstipatic acid, scabrosin-4-acetate 4'-hexanoate, ±scabrosin-4,4'-diacetate and unidentified scabrosin derivatives. | ||
Rare, endemic, in central Australia (W.A., N.T., S.A. and Qld) on rock ledges with a southerly aspect in arid areas. | ||
