Thallus small-foliose to subcrustose, tightly adnate, to 3–6 cm wide. Lobes contiguous, flat, sublinear, irregularly branched, 0.3–1 mm wide, without lobules. Upper surface greenish yellow, dull, emaculate, without soredia; older lobes irregularly fractured and areolae commonly formed; isidia sparse to moderately dense, cylindrical, mainly simple, short, up to 0.2 mm high; isidia apices syncorticate. Medulla white. Lower surface pale brown to brown, often straw-yellow near lobe apices; rhizines moderately dense, simple, pale brown. Apothecia sessile, 0.5–1 mm wide; disc concave, dark brown; thalline exciple smooth, isidiate. Ascospores 6–9 × 3.5–5.5 µm. Pycnidia common. Conidia bifusiform, 6–7 × 0.5 µm. CHEMISTRY: cortex K-, UV-; medulla K+ yellow then dark red, C-, CK-, P+ intense yellow; containing usnic acid, salazinic acid (major), norstictic acid (minor) and ±consalazinic acid. | ||
Rare, endemic, on rock in arid central Australia (N.T.), and subalpine eucalypt forests of southern N.S.W. and A.C.T. Also in Lord Howe Is. | ||
