| Thallus foliose, loosely adnate, forming rosettes to 4 cm wide. Lobes often imbricate, ±discrete and separated near margins of thallus, weakly convex, sublinear-elongate, dichotomously branched, 0.5–1.6 mm wide, lacking lobules. Upper surface pale yellow to yellow-green, darker greenish yellow towards thallus centre, moderately convex, dull to shiny, emaculate, smooth, lacking soredia and isidia. Medulla white. Lower surface partly canaliculate, pale brown with a narrow marginal band concolorous with upper surface; rhizines sparse, simple or rarely sparsely branched, black. Apothecia subpedicellate, 2–3 mm wide; disc concave, dark brown; thalline exciple prominent, crenulate. Ascospores absent. Pycnidia not seen. CHEMISTRY: cortex K-, UV-; medulla K+ yellow then deep red, C-, KC-, P+ yellow then orange; containing usnic acid, salazinic acid and ±consalazinic acid. |  |
