Hypotrachyna banguioensis (Hale) Hale

  Thallus adnate, to 4–6 cm wide. Lobes crowded, flat to slightly concave, irregular, subirregularly branched, 3–6 mm wide, subascending at margins, apically subrotund; margins with laciniae; laciniae revolute, becoming sorediate at apices, 0.5–1.5 mm wide. Upper surface ashy white to grey, flat, shiny, emaculate, without pustules or isidia; soralia spreading over apices of laciniae, orbicular at first, large; soredia farinose. Medulla white. Lower surface pale brown at lobe apices; rhizines sparse, sparsely dichotomously branched. Apothecia and pycnidia not seen. CHEMISTRY: cortex K+ yellow, UV-; medulla K+ pale yellow-brown, C-, P+ orange; containing atranorin, chloroatranorin, fumarprotocetraric acid (major) and protocetraric acid (trace).
     
  Very rare, in north-eastern Qld rainforest; also known from the Philippines. Grows on bark.
