Thallus adnate, to 3–5 cm wide. Lobes moderately imbricate, subirregular to sublinear, 2–4 mm wide; apices rotund. Upper surface grey, rugulose, dull, lacking soredia, pustules and isidia. Medulla white in upper part; lower medulla deep yellow. Lower surface black, with brown marginal zone; rhizines moderately dense, simple, black. Apothecia common, 2–4 mm wide; disc deeply concave, becoming flat, cinnamon-brown; thalline exciple crenulate. Ascospores 10–12 × 7–8 µm. Pycnidia common near lobe apices. Conidia bacilliform, 7–8 × 1 µm. CHEMISTRY: Chemistry: cortex K+ yellow; medulla K-, C+ red, KC+ red, P-; lower medulla K+ purple; containing atranorin, chloroatranorin and lecanoric acid (major); lower medulla containing euplectin. | ||
A rare endemic species in cooler areas of S.A.; also in N.S.W. and A.C.T. On bark, inhabiting twigs of shrubs. | ||
