  Thallus broadly orbicular to irregularly spreading, monophyllous to polyphyllous, 5–10 (–15) cm wide, arising directly from a broad holdfast, or very shortly stalked. Lobes broadly rounded, 1–3 (–6) cm wide; margins entire, sinuous, very shallowly scalloped, conspicuously ridged below, commonly minutely tomentose with dark brown tomentum projecting from lower surface. Upper surface pale greyish, olivaceous, suffused red-brown at margins when dry, dark slate-blue when wet, smooth, plane to undulate, slightly wrinkled or pitted, maculate; without isidia, phyllidia or soredia. Maculae minute, white, scattered, effigurate. Photobiont Nostoc. Lower surface whitish or buff, obscured by black tomentum from margins to centre. Cyphellae large, prominent, round to angular, (0.1–) 0.5–2 (–3) mm diam., sunk in tomentum; pit membrane vivid white, minutely granular. Apothecia occasional to common, sometimes crowded, laminal or marginal, 1–2 (–3) mm diam.; disc plane to subconvex, pale to dark red-brown; exciple whitish to pale buff, smooth to minutely granular. Ascospores fusiform, 1-septate, 28–36 (–42) × 7–8.5 µm, colourless.
     
  A rather rare endemic in south-eastern Qld and eastern N.S.W.; grows on mossy trees and shrubs in deeply shaded rainforest at (300–) 600–1400 m.
