| Thallus irregularly spreading from one or more holdfasts, 6–10 (–20) cm wide, attached by a gnarled thickened root-like holdfast, or rarely loosely attached centrally; margins and apices free. Lobes linear-laciniate, 1–3 (–6) cm long, 3–6 (–10) mm wide, dichotomously to irregularly branched; apices divergent, furcate or irregularly divided, rounded or blunt; margins entire, thickened below, furry-tomentose. Upper surface pale grey-green to olivaceous when dry, lettuce-green when wet, undulate, plane to subcanaliculate to punctate-impressed or wrinkled, rather papery to somewhat leathery when dry, flabby when wet. Photobiont green. Lower surface pale tan or whitish and irregularly wrinkled-striate at margins, red-brown to blackened and ±costate centrally at holdfast, glabrous or patchily velvety-tomentose. Cyphellae numerous, scattered, pin-prick-like, 0.1–0.2 (–0.3) mm diam.; margins thin; pit membrane white. Apothecia occasional or absent, marginal, sessile, 0.5–2 (–3) mm diam.; disc pale to dark red-brown; exciple whitish, tomentose when young, excluded at maturity. Ascospores fusiform, 1–3-septate, (22.5–) 25–30.5 (–33.5) × 6.5–8.5 µm, colourless. |  |
