| Thallus adnate, membranaceous, up to 10 cm wide. Lobes irregular, subirregularly branched, 3–5 mm wide; apices subrotund; margins sinuate, lacking phyllidia. Upper surface bright green when wet, pale grey to blue-grey or dull yellow when dry, ±glossy, smooth, lacking phyllidia, isidia and soredia. Photobiont green. Lower surface brown to dark brown, densely brown-tomentose but with a narrow glabrous marginal zone, densely rhizinate; rhizines simple or fasciculate, brown. Apothecia marginal, shortly pedicellate, 2–4 mm wide; disc concave at first, then plane, dark red to red-brown; thalline exciple rugulose; margin entire, flexuose. Ascospores acicular, 3–7-septate, 60–75 × 3–4 µm, colourless. Pycnidia immersed. Conidia bacilliform, 3–4 × 0.5–0.7 µm. CHEMISTRY: Cortex K–; medulla K–, C+ pink, KC+ deep pink, P–; containing gyrophoric acid (major) and lecanoric acid (trace). | ||
