Thallus slender, usually forming ±discrete tufts with main branches originating from one basal branch. Fertile branches terete to subterete, 4–7 (–8.5) cm long, usually gradually widened towards the apices and the thalline receptacle, 1–2 mm wide at the broadest point, and occasionally distinctly flattened towards the base. Branching ±isotomic-dichotomous or sometimes also with indistinct coralloid branching; ultimate branches brittle when dry. Upper and lower surfaces usually concolorous, pale yellow to yellowish green, smooth but often areolate to coarsely verrucose and deeply wrinkled to sparsely scrobiculate over the apothecia. Apothecia terminal, 1.5–5 mm wide; thalline receptacle hemispherical or conical and regularly tapering. Mazaedia exposed subapically to ventrally, partly enclosed by the thalline receptacle. Ascospores 9–13.5 (–16.5) µm diam., brownish grey to reddish brown. Conidia bacilliform, 4.5–6.5 × 1.5 µm. CHEMISTRY: Medulla K+ pale yellow or K–, P–; containing isousnic acid, stictic acid, constictic acid, placodiolic acid (trace) and an unknown compound (trace). | ||
Occurs in N.S.W., Vic. and Tas.; locally common in callidendrous cool-temperate rainforest. Also in New Zealand. | ||
