| Thallus dispersed-areolate; areolae bullate, whitish grey to greenish grey or grey, with an upper surface cracked into solid angles giving it a crystalline appearance. Soredia absent. Prothallus whitish grey or not visible. Apothecia immersed to sessile, 0.6–2.0 mm diam.; disc pinkish brown to dark brown, heavily bluish grey-pruinose; margin whitish grey, thin, entire. Cortex absent. Amphithecium with large and small crystals; small crystals soluble in KOH. Parathecium lacking crystals, c. 15 µm thick. Epihymenium olivaceous brown to dark brown, c. 10 µm thick, with crystals soluble in KOH. Hymenium, subhymenium and hypothecium hyaline. Paraphyses sparingly branched and not or slightly thickened apically. Ascospores broadly ellipsoidal, 8.0–11.5 × 6.0–8.5 µm. CHEMISTRY: Thallus and apothecial margin K+ yellow, C–, Pd+ pale orange; containing atranorin (major), zeorin (major) and chloroatranorin (minor). |  |
