Thallus cream-coloured to pale grey or greenish grey, variable but usually ±rugose and warty, ±rimose, 0.3–0.5 mm thick, corticate, esorediate. Apothecia sessile, 0.5–1.5 mm diam., not confluent; disc crimson to purple-red, epruinose; thalline margin prominent, smooth, becoming swollen and crenulate in large apothecia. Ascospores fusiform, straight or slightly curved, 5–9-septate, 35–55 × 3.5–5.0 µm. Conidia bacilliform, 7–8 × 1.5–2.0 µm. CHEMISTRY: Thallus K+ yellow, C–, KC–, Pd+ yellow; disc K+ violet; containing isoplacodiolic acid (major), atranorin (minor), isopseudoplacodiolic acid (minor) and haematommone (minor). | ||
Rare on bark in forests of south-eastern Qld. This subtropical and tropical species also occurs in Africa, Madagascar, the Philippines and North, Central and South America. | ||
