This is the only Australian native plant in a series of four 'Silo Art' stamps.
The painter of the Ravensthorpe silo shown on the stamp is Perth based artist Amok Island.

Plant: Banksia baxteri

Family: PROTEACEAE

Common-name: Baxter's Banksia



It is an erect, often open shrub to 3m high. Leaves 10cm long are toothed to the mid-rib.
Yellow-flowered globular spikes appear in summer and autumn.
Distribution: WA.
In cultivation it needs a well-drained, sunny position. It is reasonably hardy in the eastern States.
It has excellent foliage and cut flowers. It responds to pruning.
