Born at Warwick, Qld, about 1871, since his age was given as 52 when he died at work at Manjimup, W.A., on 30 July 1923.
He was employed by the Forests
Department of Western Australia from 1917, initially as a botanical and
seed collector, in which period he laid the foundations of the
Departmental herbarium. At the time of his death he was
Forester-in-Charge of the large and important Manjimup forest district.
There is some difference of records with regard to his
initials. The Australian
Forest Journal, 15 August 1923, in the obituary gives them
as shown above (F.M.C.), but herbarium material in the writing of W. F.
Blakely shows T.W.C.; it has been assumed that the latter is an error
for F.M.C.
Note on surname
The book: R.Underwood, 'A Botanical Journey, The Story of the Western Australian Herbarium' (2011) p.74 spells the surname 'Schoch', and the accompanying photo is captioned this way, crediting a family member. But the herbarium records in AVH are spelt 'Schock' in all but one case.
