Rosier, Stanley Bruce, Rev. (1928 - 2019)He was a bishop in the Anglican Church of Australia.
He was born in Subiaco, WA, on November 18, 1928, died on 28 February 2019 at Adelaide, SA.
He began his
education at the Rosalie State
School and later attended the
East Claremont and Claremont
Central State schools.
In 1940
he won a Government scholarship
to Perth Modern School, a Shell
scholarship worth £50, and a
scholarship to Hale School.
Entering Hale School in 1941,
Mr. Rosier was dux of each form
of which he was a member and
became dux of Hale School in
1944 at the age of 16.
At the University of W.A.,
where he began a science course
in 1945, he completed the course
in three years. He gained nine
distinctions in the nine subjects
of the bachelor of science course.
He took first-class honours in
physics in 1948 and first-class
honours in mathematics in 1949,
and also gained a distinction in elementary Greek.
He was West Australian Rhodes Scholar for 1949, and studied at Christ Church, Oxford, UK.
He trained for ordination at Westcott House, Cambridge, UK, and was ordained deacon in 1954 and priest in 1955.
He began his ministry with a curacy at Ecclesall, after which he was the Rector of Wyalkatchem from 1957. He was then the Rector of Kellerberrin and, from 1967, an assistant bishop in the Diocese of Perth.
In 1970 he was appointed Bishop of Willochra, a post he held until 1987. He was then the Rector of St Oswald's Parkside in Adelaide until his retirement in 1994.
He died in hospital in Adelaide on 28 February 2019.
