Lang, Peter John (1955 - )Peter is a Senior Botanist for the State Herbarium.
He helps maintain the South Australian Vascular Plant Census and compiles and prepared plant images for the 5th edition of Flora of South Australia, as well as assisting with its editing.
Peter has a comprehensive field-based knowledge of the vascular plant flora of South Australia which is put to good use in plant identification.
He has described new species across a variety of families and is currently focussing on the Goodeniaceae and Fabaceae.
Peter is also interested in the interactions between plants and insects, particularly in the beetle family Buprestidae.
In 2013 State Herbarium botanist Peter Lang calculated the numbers of vascular plants growing in the wild in South Australia: 4,940 taxa (= species, subspecies & varieties) of which 1,267 (25.6%) are naturalised alien plants (weeds) while a further 232 taxa (4.7%) are questionably naturalised
