Klazenga, Niels   (1969 -  )

Born in 1969 in the Netherlands.

He completed his PhD at the Rijksherbarium, Leiden, the Netherlands under the supervision of Andries Touw (known as Dries). For his PhD he revised the moss genus Dicranoloma in Malesia and completed a cladistic analysis of the genus.

As the second 'Pacific Dunlop Fellow', Dr Niels commenced work at the National Herbarium of Royal Botanic Gardens Melbourne on the 30th of August 1999.

He has has brought to Australia his expertise in traditional and modern moss taxonomy.

He made an invaluable contribution to the completion of Catalogue of Australian Mosses (Streimann & Klazenga, 2002) and published a revision of the genus Dicranoloma (Klazenga, 2003) and an overview of generic concepts in Australian mosses (Klazenga, 2005).

Between 2000 and 2002, Niels carried out the complex task of migrating the content of Melbourne's moss Access database into the National Species List (NSL) for Australia.

His herbarium collections in AVH start with overseas collections from 1997 and Australian collections from 1999.
