Irby, Llewellyn George (1883 - 1964)Born 18 December 1883 in Tenterfield Shire, NSW; died 12 January 1964 in Winyard, Tasmania.
He is one of five children to Edward De Crespigny Irby (1851-1924) and Edith Irby née Campbell (1852-1946), farmers.
When R.T. Baker names Melaleuca irbyana in 1913 he states that it "was discovered by Mr. L.G. Irby, Museum Collector..." [presumably the Sydney Technological Museum where Baker was Curator] in 1911.
On 20 August 1914 "Mr. Llewellyn
George Irby, of Gilgandra," marries "Miss [Mary Louisa] Stockdale, ... of Grafton" [1893-1978].
In december 1916 he is appointed from a 'tempoary officer' to a permanent position as 'Forest Guard' in the NSW Forestry Commission.
He formally resigns as a 'Forest Guard' in November 1919.
An interview in the Launceston Examiner newspaper in January 1920 refers to him as "recently appointed Conservator of Forests in Tasmania, and who has commenced duty at Hobart".
By 1936 he has presumably retired as Conservator and becone a farmer, because he is convicted in a court case:
