Peltophorum pterocarpum

Peltophorum pterocarpum

Yellow Flame Tree

family FABACEAE

artist:Sydney Parkinson (1894 - )

Botanical print produced from original drawings made by Sydney Parkinson on the first voyage of Captain Cook (1768-1771).

Following Parkinson's death on the return voyage, the watercolour was presumably completed by Frederick Polydore Nodder and engraved by Daniel MacKenzie,, under the patronage of Banks. These passed to the Natural History Museum on Banks' death and were eventually published by them in the 1980s in full colour as Banks' Florilegium, using the original engraving plates.
